    Default 1&1 price increase?

    Got the following email today:

We are pleased to unveil the new 1&1 Home Package with more
web space and unlimited traffic coming in September 2009. As
a result, starting September 2009 your Home package will
    cost $6.99 per month*.

By listening to our customers, we’ve made this important change to
allow us to offer the worry-free hosting environment that your site
needs. Regardless of the amount of traffic your site generates you
won’t have unexpected charges at the end of the month beyond your
monthly fees. And with more web space, you can take your site even
    further.

As of September 1, 2009 you will be able to enjoy unlimited traffic
and more web space. The new price for the Home package will be
applied at the start of your package’s next billing cycle after
    September 1, 2009.

If you have any questions regarding the changes to the Home package,
our support representatives will be happy to assist you.

    Thank you for choosing 1&1.
I'm not real happy about the price increase, albeit only $24 a year for my particular package. I don't really need additional bandwidth nor additional webspace (and am I blind, or did they not say what the new web space quota is?)

Anyway, still a decent deal and I don't plan on moving. If you sign up now, you get 3 months for free. If you're interested, use the link in my sig and I get a small kickback

I've had flawless experiences with 1&1, including a couple calls to their tech support folks. I know a lot of others here who have had equally flawless service, but one or two who have had bad experiences, so YMMV, use your own judgement (cue Mike's response in 5,4,3... )

Keep in mind... that if you use a database with your sites, 1 & 1 only allows 100meg total.

Now that could change... but that's why I changed to GoDaddy and now I'm off to Host Gator.

Hostgator ROCKS! I think there is a referral link posted by me around here somewhere.

The BEST thing about them is that I can ask technical questions. Unlike some places where the best I can get them to understand is 'it don't work'. With Hostgator I can tell them things like 'I think I have a Mod Sec problem with this page:xxx'. I then get back a response of 'The problem was (insert technical error description). We corrected it. Thanks.'

I have 1&1 too, no price increase message as of today (7:40pm Tues. 7/21). The only email from 1&1 I have receive is a 3 month summer special and a "access you e-mail from anywhere". No price increase, maybe their targeting folkes that call tech support for the increase....LOL
It\'s not about how many channels or lights you have.
But rather how you use them.

In my opinion people should not get hooked up with 1and1 Internet.
1and1 Internet has an F rating with the Pennsylvania Better Business Bureau. Their lowest rating.
    “BBB Rating
Based on BBB files, this business has a BBB Rating of F. This is their lowest rating possible
    Reasons for this rating include:
    · Number of complaints filed against business
    · Failure to respond to complaints filed against business
    · Number of complaints filed against business that were unresolved
    · Overall complaint history with BBB

This email was regarding the 1&1 "Home" package. Not sure if other packages were affected...

P.S. I find this an odd choice of a thread for a new member to make their first post in, but oh well

I have the home package as well and no email.....maybe it goes with your billing cycle. Does your end right when they are switching?

I too find it a really strange post......Lets start the countdown till he starts pedaling his web hosting.
