I was at Home Depot this weekend and saw the Gemmy Multi-Color Light Show LED sets. They do a five minute show, and appear to have individual control of each bulb, not only for on-off, but also for color. They claim to be 10 color (I only counted Red, Green, Blue, White, Yellow, Orange, and Purple, but they may have been counting lighter shades as other colors.) In person, the colors looked much better than on the website.
I'm not sure I have a use for these as is (and at $35 for 24 lights...) but I'm wondering if anyone's tinkered with them. Maybe if they're still around at 90% off, I'll pick up a set. If there was some way to get LOR (or any of the others) to control these lights, it'd be a great addition.

Well here is a pic of the inside of the peppermint lights by gemmy. The power side seams to just convert the ac into filtered DC. Every light has 4 wries marked VCC,DOUT,DIN,VSS except the last one it is missing DOUT. Each board contains 9 resistors, 2 ceramic caps, 1 electrolytic cap, 1 diode,1 transistor, 3 jumpers, and an epoxy blob on the back (cpu?). the board is marked GP17617KT-7260. board is 4.7 cm long by 2.3 cm wide

I just unsoldered both the data in and out. When I powered on the unit, it appears that each cluster on the network has its own program. It will run the program with or without the data feed. It appears that the data is only to keep them in sync with one another. There is a main ac/sync at the very begining in the transformer so that you can link up multiple strands. So no easy hacking this kit. It would be really cool if someone came up with this so that you could assign each cluster, and have full control.
