So I'm not sure when exactly this happened, but a snail managed to get inside the LOR board and as you can tell, literally explode and took the left bank of channels with it. I had a small, rubbermaid type box over the enclosure in the photo, but the snail got in.
I'm not sure when this happened because I had set up the display over the Thanksgiving week but it was set to static. When I set up the show tonight to run for the first time, I found this. The right bank works fine, so for now it's running with the left bank unplugged, but I'll be doing a damage assessment within a day or two to see if it can be fixed.
A close up:

lol, yeah, I don't think the warranty covers acts of snails. I'll see if I can fix it myself, if not, it becomes an 8 channel board.

What's pretty amazing is the shell stayed intact! Next time put your controller over a beer trap! If you think about it (and you are a gardener who would know what one is) a controller box looks like a snail trap.

I can only imagine your reaction when you opened up the box to see what the problem was....

did you check the fuse? that could be the only problem besides the mess
and i would imagne the snail drew enough power to pop the fuse...

You know, being a PCB Manufacturing Engineer for almost 20 years, I have see it all. You wouldn't believe the stuff I scene... But, a snail on a circuit board,:shock:that's a first.
Looking at the picture, it looks likea couple of tracesgot de-laminatedand lifted on thePCB. Basically the PCB is not repairable. Unless you do a bypass using a 12 gage wire.
BTW: Death my electrocution has been deemed cruel and unusual punishment in the State of California. :P
Guess when I get homefrom work today, I am going to put some snail killeraround my LOR controllers.....
AllJoking aside, you have to admit, that is one **** of a PCB design if 1/2 of it still works. Way to go Dan!

Looking at the picture, is that 3 core mains going into it with the earth wire cut off, and going nowhere? Surely the aluminum back sheet should be earthed. Tut tut.

Grounding plastic boxes isn't terribly necessary if you don't use grounded outputs. I do like to connect the wire to the heatsink though just so it itsn't floating, or use non-grounded input cords...
